Pine Forest Shooting Spot is situated near Ooty Town in Ooty Taluk in Nilgiris District
of Tamilnadu. The Pine Forest is located right off the road leading to Ooty (when returning from
Pykara). It is actually a small valley area, where several movies, songs and serials have been
shot. The soaring pines, fresh air and the picturesque views of the mountains all around make
it a very sought-after place for shooting. The Pine forest Ooty location is actually pretty famous
among directors, be it the Hindi Film Industry or the Tamil Film Industry.
The Kamaraj Sagar Dam is in the Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu state in India. It is located at a distance of 10 km from the Ooty bus stand. It is a picnic spot and a film shooting spot on the slopes of the Wenlock Downs.
Where is 6th Mile Ooty? It is 6 miles (or about 10 km) away from Ooty. It is a part of the Wenlock Downs and numerous Indian movie shootings have taken place over the years. The area is surrounded by dense Shola forests, and those form a stunning backdrop for these extensive lush green grasslands.
Wenlock Downs, 9th Mile Ooty is a scenic tourist spot, 15 km (i.e. 9 miles) away from Ooty. The location boasts of vast meadows sprawling out to, what seems like infinity.
The surroundings of the Pykara water falls are famous for the Toda settlements and these are one of the very few placements where you find the Todas in their natural habitat. It is advisable to take some warm clothes with you even during summer as it can get pretty chilly during the evenings.
It is preferable to stay away from the lake and falls during the monsoon. Especially, the falls are very unpredictable during the monsoons as the level of water might rise suddenly without any forewarning and can result in catastrophe for any tourist caught unawares.
Pykara river is the largest river and is located about 21 kms from the city on the Ooty-Mysore road in the Niligiri district. The area around the lake is surrounded by sholas (local name for forest) that adds to its natural beauty. The river falls down from two different heights towards the end, one from 55 metres and the other from 61 metres. These two falls are known as Pykara falls and are located at a distance of 1.5 kms away from the lake.
The place is a popular picnic spot among locals as well as tourists. Many Kollywood (Tamil Cinema) filmmakers have shot scenes/songs of their movies around this picturesque lake. There is a boat house, rest house and a restaurant that is run by the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation. A motorboat or a speedboat can be hired from the boat house to enjoy a fun-filled ride.
Mudumalai National Park is one of the most critical ecological systems in the country, with Bandipur National Park and Nagarhole National Park to the north and the Wayand wildlife sanctuary to the south. In between them they house more than 500 species of animals, birds, reptiles and even more species of insects. Famous for its tiger population, the National park was recently declared a Tiger Reserve with a population of about 103 tigers. Needless to say the place is breathtaking and captivating for anyone who appreciates nature.
As you ride through the forests you are bound to see elephants roaming freely in the wilderness and different types of deer for starters. As you move deeper into the jungle, if luck favors you, you will see many endangered species of birds and animals.
